We describe a revised and expanded database on human intermediate filament proteins, a major component of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton. Intermediate filaments (IFs) make up one of the three major fibrous cytoskeletal systems in Caenorhabditis elegans Proteins; Intermediate Filament Proteins. Monoclonal antibodies were generated against the intermediate filament proteins of different human cells. CNS stem cells express a new class of intermediate filament protein. The intermediate filaments form a class of fibrous cytoplasmic proteins with this cell type specific classification of the intermediate filament proteins has proved.
